By car
Since most people have a navigation system in their car it's just a matter of punching in the address and follow the instructions. Otherwise use one of the online map tools to plot your trip in advance.
Note: Germany has introduced 'green zones' (Umweltzones) in most cities. Older, polluting cars may not enter these zones. All cars entering these zones must have a color coded sticker (Umweltplakette) affixed to its windshield which lists the car's pollution grade. This sticker must be bought in advance and may require an emission test at a garage to properly measure the pollution level.
Although the hostel is located just outside of the Munich green zone, be careful when driving to or from the hostel that you do not cross into this zone if you do not have a green sticker or no sticker at all.
By train
Munich is well connected to Europe by the German railroad network. For passengers from abroad, Munich Central Station (München Hbf) would be the most logical destination, then take a local train (S-Bahn) to München-Laim station (4 stops). From there it is only a few minutes walk to the hostel.
By plane
There are frequent trains running from Munich airport (MUC) to the city. There are two routes, S1 and S8. S1 happens to run by station München-Laim and some trains even stop there! However, if you take the S8 or S1 skips München-Laim, just change trains at Central Station (München Hbf). The journey time is about 45 minutes.
The Deutsche Bahn (German railroad) service desk is located in the Munich Airport Center in Terminal 1. It is open on Mon. – Fri. and on Sundays from 7:30 a.m. until 9 p.m., and on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. until 7 p.m.
You can either buy your train ticket at the airport or in advance at the online webshop of the Munich public transport company. You can pay with Visa and Mastercard. Select a ticket that is valid for 1 day for the "entire network".
